10 reviewsWhen I first arrived in West Allis, WI in Aug. 2019, the Washing Well at 8630 W. National Avenue has been my first choice, until I started getting negative reactions to the black mold in the machines. I had found a better laundromat (Suds Your Duds, 69th & Beloit), but it takes longer to reach by public transit. Fast forward to Sept. 2020, when for the second time in a row I couldn’t reach SYDs due to transit issues and chose to go to Washing Well instead.
The machines are cleaner and the two elderly gentlemen who clean the laundromat in the early morning are very nice. However, this location suffers from the following:
*Out of the three laundromats between 69th & Beloit and 87th and National (the third is another and much worse Washing Well on 85th & Greenfield), the National Avenue location has change machines that are out of order most of the time. On more than one occasion I’ve had to go elsewhere to do laundry because of this.
*Costs. Washers start at $2.75-3.00 per cycle. Dryers are $1.50 for thirty minutes.
*Refreshment machines contain expired food and drinks.
*aging, malfunctioning machines (today one of the machines I used didn’t spin and the machine was full of water when the cycle was finished
*warped seals on several dryers - one machine that I was going to use wouldn’t close at all, and there were times that the dryers would stop because the doors would pop open on occasion. This is another reason why laundry should not be left attended.
*No phone number to contact the manager in case of problems. There are a large number of surveillance cameras, however.
To summarize, if you can make the trip, try to go to Suds Your Duds on 69th & Beloit instead. The machines there are in much better shape (though the dryers have some wear and tear on them) and use of the washers start at $1.75 with dryers at $0.25 for every eight minutes. Washing Well is cleaner than it used to be, but looks are literally deceiving.

This is the worst laundromat I’ve ever been to. Super nasty . Mold in the machines and OVERPRICED MACHINES!!! The machines are so small. I spent over $60 washing here. I have no idea why I didn’t stick to my usual laundromat. The bathroom is disgusting. The machines are old and always out of order. It gives me itches looking at this place: I’m actually going to rewash my clothes at another laundromat. The dryers are terrible . Clothes still damp and put over $4 in the dryer
I really apologize that you did not have our typical customer experience. We have a cleaning crew every morning come in and clean. Unfortunately people are not that tidy while doing their laundry and we are unattended. We recently installed 10 new machines a year ago, a couple years ago 15 more, so we are sorry you feel this way and hope you will come back. Please email us and we would like to mail you something to come back.
Went there the machine was messed up locked up my colthes because the machine after washing our load it then turn red and state that there is a error. The new big washers didn't spin our colthes well had to wash it over again.
Laundry machine got stuck at 1 min with door locked an couldn't get clothes out. Had to leave a note as there no one to call. On top of that the washers are always janky an have issues taking coins. An the one load that did work didn't dry completely even adding extra time an that's a common issue. Also there already overpriced as is, spent just over 20 dollars because I also had to buy soap an that's with 2 loads an 1 dry didn't even get my other load dried. Then this happened Hopefully they call soon would really like to have my clothes. Machines always eat quarters too.
You can't add coins per how long u want the dryer to go. Its automatic $1.50 per dry n it doesn't dry well. Washing machines have limited size for washing. Majority is $2.75 a wash for majority of the washers they have. Its small loads. The water used to wash my clothes was very little compared to other laundromat. I am not happy as my clothes were barely wet. I doubt my colored clothes are even washed properly with that less of water. $6 and $6.50 larger loads that are bit bigger washers. One of the washers left my white clothes dirty and still drenching wet... it was a small load. It was dirty from the washer. That pair of pants had no dirty stains when it went in. My socks still dirty n i used bleach! Never again. They have laundry carts that has a high pole, if u go to the back of the laundry mat it hits the ceiling beam n u have to go around the whole laundry mat to go to the other side. Weird. Don't waste your time and money.
I am so sorry that this was your experience. I would like to address the issues you posted -
For the dryers - they run for 30 minutes which is most efficient for the customer - beings in the business for 25 years starting & stopping dryers by minutes purchased will cost the customer more to dry in time every time the dryer stops it has to reheat to a drying temperature. That price is in line with other stores. The dryers are designed for laundry to rotate & drop. If the dryers are overloaded the clothes has no space to dry clothing.
The washers - $2.75 you referred to are larger than a top load washer. Our washers use the same amount of water that any other laundromat uses. This can not be adjusted. It is industry standard no matter what brand of machine. My guess is that the washer was overloaded therefore the center of the load can not get wet. Again the machines are designed so the load will rotate & drop. This is because there is no agitator in a front load. Overloading will result in clothes not getting clean/and or wet. We ask you to look at a washer before you put your clothes in because of a previous customer might have washed something that was extremely dirty. We clean our stores daily. We would like to have you come back or reach out to us at our email.
Very horrible went there just because other place was to busy should have just went there clothes didn’t get washed at all with smaller or bigger load I’m gonna have to go wash them all over again some were soaking wet or some were dry don’t waste your time or money !
Women be careful apparently the owner becomes aggressive and attempts to overpower women if they are alone. So don’t go here at night and don’t go alone!!! See photo.
Luv this little laundry spot. But It seems to attract some pretty shady characters, and last time i was there i used 2 dryers with the same amount of clothes and temperature. Unfortunately 1 dryer didnt dry the load. I ended up just taking them home to hang cuz it was kinda late and i had to work early the next day. This is the first time I had any issues with the dryers.
We really appreciate those kind words! Thanks!
This place absolutely sucks. Do not ever come here, it defeats the purpose of a laundry mat because these machines do not wash your clothes. I had a regular load & used liquid Tide. Most of my clothes still smelled dirty I had to go to another laundry mat & wash them again. Total waste of time & $$. Go somewhere else. Machine are rusty smell like mildew, & loose circuit boards. This place sucks
I used to really love this laundromat, but lately the machines are always broken, the vending machines rarely work and the dryers will absolutely cook your clothes, even on low temp.
It has also become the bathroom/hygiene space for the local homeless population, which I don't care about, but I've watched people grab their stuff and leave because the homeless people get a little weird in there. 🤷♂️
The cleaning guy is great, he keeps that sucker spotless and he's friendly. But the owner could definitely do better with maintenance and operations.
UPDATE 4/19/25;
Came in today because I didn't have time to go to my regular spot. Bad decision....clothes came out smelling musty and ended up throwing away everything I brought to wash. I don't think this guy ever cleans the machines. The whole place stinks and today, like 10 machines didn't work. Dude should close or sell this place. He clearly doesn't give a shit about the place except collecting the money. He doesn't even reinvest into the place. So, that was it for me. Walmart and Target won today, as I had to spend $230 to replace the stuff this laundromat destroyed. I lost, again and for the last time at this place.
